Deputies of the Zhdeniivka village council in Transcarpathia opposed the creation of the Polonyna Hosta landscape reserve. Protected status could have provided Hosta with protection from development. According to activists, the odious "Wind Parks" are involved in this anti-ecological decision.
This was reported by Espreso with reference to the Save Pikui page.
The Ukrainian Nature Conservation Group (UNCG) submitted a request for the creation of the Polonyna Hosta landscape reserve of national importance. According to environmentalists, the Ministry of Economy officially approved the creation of a new protected area in Transcarpathia.
However, 17 deputies voted to reject the request.
"Among our insiders, the argument for rejecting the creation of the reserve for the Zhdeniiv deputies was made by "Wind Farms." This document was already ready while the Chairman was removed from office. We have all the documents," says the Save Pikui statement.
Preliminarily, Wind Farms of Ukraine plans to equip a 200 MW wind farm on Mount Hostiya with up to 40 wind turbines. In early December, the Zhdeniivska village council announced the start of a strategic environmental assessment procedure.
EcoPolitic reported on the situation surrounding the construction of wind turbines in the Ukrainian Carpathians. Despite protests from activists and the public, Wind Farms continues to acquire new plots of land for the construction of wind farms. In the case of the Runa mountain pasture, the State Environmental Inspection sees no violations, and the courts are siding with the developers.
According to the results of a joint field meeting of the Verkhovna Rada's environmental and European integration committees, all wind farm construction projects in Zakarpattia must undergo an "inventory" and receive a proper environmental assessment. The Zakarpattia Council was reminded of the inadmissibility of ignoring the public, and law enforcement agencies were reminded of the importance of doing their job.
However, whether there will be an appropriate response and whether the fate of the Hostery mountain pasture will repeat that of Runa remains an open question.
