In Transcarpathia, eco-activists are demanding from the authorities to cancel the transfer of the Vilshan Reservoir on the Tereblya River, which is also called the Transcarpathian Sea, to private ownership for hotel activities.
In 2 years, caring Ukrainians cleared the coast of the reservoir from tons of garbage and tried to create a protected object, but the officials who were asked to help preserve these lands became interested in the territory, reports the Chysto.de community on Facebook.
Eco-activists said that the cleaning of the Transcarpathian Sea began in October 2020. During this time, they collected 110 tons of waste, including 57 tons of recycled materials that did not end up in landfills. In order to save the reservoir from the accumulation of garbage, people from different parts of Ukraine, even some artists and media persons, held 17 two- and three-day eco-cleaning picnics.
However, ecoactivists learned that the cleared area will be transferred to private property for hotel activities.
The authors explained why such a decision is unacceptable, because:
- it is state-owned land of unique beauty and value, located near the Synevyr National Park and of coastal protection importance;
- eco-activists have repeatedly appealed to the authorities to help solve the garbage problem and support the idea of bequeathing land;
- the officials to whom they turned with a request to help preserve these lands became interested in the territory;
- the process of registration of land transfer was carried out in secret during the year, without any public discussions or publications. During this time, ecoactivists conducted 11 cleanups.
"It turns out that even during the war, when blood is shed for the Holy Ukrainian Land, those who despise their people and care only about their own enrichment are in power. We want to live in a conscious and fair Ukrainian society," the authors emphasized.
They require:
- to cancel orders of the Zakarpattia OVA No. 296 and No. 297 dated June 28, 2022;
- to contribute to the creation of the landscape reserve "The Coast of the Transcarpathian Sea" on this territory.
Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that half a hundred people in Transcarpathia the banks of the Vilshan Reservoir were cleared of garbage, which is also known as "Transcarpathian Sea".
As EcoPolitic previously reported, in Transcarpathia the public organization "Danube-Carpathian Program" together with the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve started flood the "Valley of Daffodils" to protect it from the effects of climate change.
