Other litigations are also ongoing over this natural reserve fund object

The Kyiv Ecological and Cultural Center (KECC) and the Desniansky District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv won a court case to protect the Desniansky Meadows nature reserve from illegal development.

The Center's director, Volodymyr Boreyko, posted this on Facebook.

The Kyiv City Commercial Court ordered Berezhok LLC, which seized almost 500 square meters of the reserve, to demolish 26 illegally installed structures. The ecologist published a photo of this decision:

Judge Natalia Zelenina partially satisfied the prosecutors' claims. The following are subject to demolition:

  • 6 buildings with a total area of 149 square meters;
  • 8 temporary structures with awnings with a total area of 335.5 square meters;
  • 2 buildings for economic purposes with a total area of 17.5 square meters.

Berezhok LLC could file an appeal within 20 days from the date of signing the full text of the decision.

Volodymyr Boreyko reminded that the CECC is currently involved in two more lawsuits in defense of the Desnianski Luki reserve. The first one is against Kyivvodokanal, which illegally dug a trench in the reserve, and the second one is against another businessman who illegally installed gazebos in the reserve.

According to the ecologist, the Desnianski Luki landscape reserve of local importance was created to preserve unique meadows along the Desna River with Red Book species of animals and plants. It is home to a large population of the Red Book Siberian beer buntings, as well as more than 30 species of birds, many of which are protected by the Bern Convention.

“In addition, it is a huge natural place for recreation for Kyiv residents, which has not yet been destroyed by construction,” emphasized Boreyko.

In October 2023, it became known that two residents of the Desnianskyi district had arranged a recreation area on the banks of the Desnianka River on the territory of the Desnianski Luki landscape reserve.

And in January 2024, it turned out that Kyivvodokanal had dug a trench and destroyed part of the reserve. The damage amounted to UAH 2.6 million. In October of the same year, we reported that the Desnianskyi District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv submitted an indictment against two former heads of the utility for intentional damage to this nature reserve.
