Rivne is launching a waste sorting eco-project. The community will receive a grant of €43 thousand for its implementation.

This was announced by Acting Mayor of Rivne Viktor Shakyrzyan on Telegram.

Rivne is launching international cooperation with the Berlin district of Pankow under the Engagement Global program. The grant funds will be used for a three-tiered initiative that aims to introduce a systematic approach to sorting and recycling household waste in the city.

The project will be implemented by the Department of Infrastructure and Improvement of the Rivne City Council, in particular by the municipal motor transport enterprise No. 1728.

Key areas of work:

  1. Experience exchange between the municipalities of Rivne and Berlin. Representatives from both countries will jointly study effective waste management models.
  2. Construction of five new waste collection sites in Rivne, equipped with containers for separate collection of waste, including paper, glass, plastic, organics, and mixed waste.
  3. Environmental education campaign for city residents, particularly for schoolchildren. Residents will be offered training and interactive events to help foster a culture of responsible waste management.

On October 13, the mayor of the Berlin district of Pankow, Cordelia Koch, signed an agreement on the project, and on October 21, the partnership coordinator, Daryna Ilienko, visited Rivne to sign the relevant documents on the Ukrainian side.

It is worth reminding that the Zhytomyr community has launched a pilot environmental project "Household Waste Management in Educational Institutions". The participants of the initiative are lyceums #14, 22, 24, 30, 31 and preschools #34, 44, 46, 55 and 66.
