In the capital noted another deterioration in the state of the air, which at some observation stations reached a level dangerous to human health.

This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration with reference to the Department of Environmental Protection and Adaptation to Climate Change of the Kyiv City State Administration.

Specialists record an increase in the concentration of suspended particles (dust). They call forest fires in the Kyiv region and seasonal temperature changes a likely cause of temporary deterioration of the air.

According to the SE "Forests of Ukraine," in the Kyiv region, firefighters are currently localizing and eliminating fires in Dubechansky, Novosilkovsky and Fenevichi forestry. Foresters noted that in most cases the cause of forest fires is the careless handling of fire.

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine said that the increase in the level of atmospheric air pollution in autumn is a natural phenomenon, because temperature differences during the day and at night cause temperature inversions, which in turn cause the accumulation of harmful substances in the surface layer of the air.

"Warm air and humidity lead to fog, harmful substances from various emission sources are almost not dispersed," the department explained.

The Department of Environmental Protection of the KMDA provides a list of stationary points where the air has a high level of pollution:

Right bank:

  • St. Turivska, 28 general air quality index* – 89;
  • St. Shchuseva, 20, the overall air quality index is 100;
  • European Union Avenue, 64-G, the overall air quality index is 100;
  • 97 Beresteyskyi Avenue, general air quality index – 100;
  • St. Chinaivska, 22, the overall air quality index is 90.

Left bank:

  • St. Kharkiv highway, 7/1, general air quality index – 100;
  • St. Architect Verbytskyi, 26, the overall air quality index is 74.

* – the Common Air Quality Index (CAQI) is formed automatically based on indicators of several main pollutants: PM2.5 and PM10 (dust particles), SO2 (sulfur dioxide), NO2 (nitrogen dioxide), O3 (surface ozone). , CO (carbon monoxide). The lower the CAQI, the better the air quality.

Please note that it shows data according to another index – AQIPM2.5 (Air quality index), so the numbers differ from those provided by the Department of Environmental Protection of the KMDA.

To improve the situation and protect health, specialists recommend to citizens:

  • close the windows;
  • minimize being outside;
  • drink more water;
  • if there is an air purifier, turn it on to the maximum.

Earlier, EcoPolitic wrote, that in September, the Kyiv City State Administration reported on the deterioration of the air condition in the capital already twice – September 3 and September 16 – due to large-scale fires in ecosystems around the city and unfavorable weather conditions.
