The new charging system will allow charging electric vehicles as quickly as filling up conventional cars with gasoline at a gas station

Chinese vehicle manufacturer BYD has introduced a new charging system for electric vehicles that provides a 470 km range in just 5 minutes of charging.

It is reported by Bloomberg with a reference to the founder and CEO of the company Wang Chuanfu.

The innovative system has surpassed Tesla Superchargers. Currently, they can add up to 275 km of range in 15 minutes. Besides, after the testing, the Han L EV (electric vehicle) by BYD outperformed the Mercedes-Benz CLA electric sedan, which gains 325 km in 10 minutes. The new product is equipped with a 1000 V high-voltage system, 10C charging technology, and electric motors with a capacity of almost 1100 hp. This will accelerate the car to 100 km/h in 2 seconds.

BYD plans to construct more than 4000 new ultrafast charging stations in China.

According to analysts, the new platform could increase demand for BYD's electric vehicles and help the company reach the level of hybrid sales which surpassed electric cars' sakes in 2024.

The new platform may also compete with the Chinese company CATL, the world's largest manufacturer of batteries for EVs.

As it has been previously reported by EcoPolitic, Mercedes-Benz has created a car paint that can generate electricity from the sun.
