Specialists will conduct their field research

Over 3 months, independent surveys identified 137 plots with changes in forest cover in the Lviv and Transcarpathian regions.

This was reported to the GO “Forest Initiatives and Sustainment” (“LIIS”). As part of the project “Combating Illegal Logging in Ukraine”, experts from a large organization are monitoring changes in Ice cover of the Carpathian region for satellite images. In the spring of 2024, LIIS experts recorded changes in 137 plots that occurred during the summer-autumn period in the territory of Lviv region and Transcarpathia. Of these, 72 plots were cultivated in part of the territory of the Lviv region and 65 plots in part of the territory of Transcarpathia region.
The Fahivtsi drew two maps, on which in red color they indicated plots of land near the forest cover.

After a section analysis, according to the information of the LIAC online database, "LIiS" experts selected those areas where there are no permits for felling and it is impossible to establish the forest user.

Next, experts will separate areas for field surveys. LIiS NGO experts promise to inform the public and law enforcement officers of the results of their visit to the area if they detect violations of the law. If there is a need, experts tell the forest users themselves about the noticed problems with their forest management.
