This refutes another argument made by opponents of electric vehicles – that they take too long to charge

Slow charging of electric cars has long been one of the main reasons why motorists have been slow to switch to environmentally friendly vehicles. In the US, this problem is being solved quite quickly and on a nationwide scale. In 2025 alone, 11,300 ultra-fast electric charging stations were installed there.

According to Bloomberg, 48% more such charging stations were installed in 2025 than in 2024.

In the last quarter of last year, every fourth charging device in the United States was capable of providing a car with enough energy to travel 100 miles in less than 10 minutes.

High-speed statistics

According to EVgo, which owns one of the largest EV charging networks in the US, the usage time of charging devices has decreased for the first time since 2021. This is primarily attributed to charging speed.

The development of a network of ultra-fast charging stations should convince skeptics for whom long charging times were a key argument against buying an electric vehicle. According to a Deloitte survey, charging time was the second most significant obstacle to switching to electric vehicles, even higher than the price of this type of transport.

The device is the most important factor

Many factors affect charging time, including the type of car and air temperature. The charging device is the most important factor.

Under ideal conditions, a 300 kW EV charger can fully charge a 100 kWh battery in just 20 minutes. A 100 kW charger would take three times as long to do the same job.

EVgo is the only company that already has 60% of its car charging cables as superfast. Four years ago, it was only 15%.

Building a fast charging station is more expensive than a regular one. In the long run, this reduces queues for charging, congestion at stations, and eventually the need for so many of them.

This is not the limit

Manufacturers of both charging stations and electric cars themselves are constantly raising the bar for charging speed. Electrify America is working on creating 400 kW chargers. Chinese car manufacturer BYD Co. Ltd has released electric cars capable of charging at 1,000 kW.

In Ukraine, the situation with charging electric cars is much more complicated. Due to enemy attacks on the power grid and a decision by the regulator, charging cars will become more expensive starting in 2026.
