A second round-the-clock mobile waste sorting capsule was opened in the village of Chabany in Kyiv Oblast.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
"The Sorting Capsules are designed to collect and recycle more than 20 types of packaging. In particular, you can hand over various types of plastic and textile waste for safe recycling. The mini-station is open around the clock on a self-service basis with personal access by phone.
What is the “Sorting Capsules” project
"Sorting Capsules is the first network of innovative sorting stations in Ukraine. The project is being developed by the NGO "Ukraine without Waste" in partnership with the government and business. The project is currently actively supported by the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture of Ukraine.
The first sorting capsule was opened in 2023 in Kyiv at the FORUM business campus.
According to the project organizers, the capsules are based on converted shipping containers, which is an innovative solution that combines environmental friendliness and reusability. Inside the capsule, there are containers for different types of waste, as well as information on collection and recycling for users.
The Ministry of Economy said that the unique waste collection project aims to make sorting convenient, accessible, and understandable for residents. The opening of the second capsule is part of the scaling up of the mobile sorting station initiative, which will continue to develop in other regions of Ukraine.
The public organization “Ukraine Without Waste” noted that the project is intended to:
1) digitize processes from collection to processing through the state platform “E-Waste”;
2) determine how much waste is actually generated and processed, in order to use data to attract investment and build new waste processing enterprises;
3) make waste sorting part of state policy, rather than isolated initiatives. In particular, it should function systematically through convenient digital services, economic incentives, and a sense of shared responsibility among all Ukrainians.
We remind readers of EcoPolicy that in September in the Kyiv region, there were plans to launch a modern project on solid household waste management and energy production from waste.
The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, says that the project's goal is to minimize illegal landfills through household waste sorting, transforming dumps into modern waste processing sites. As a result, a portion of the waste can be reused.
