Rescuers recall the algorithm of actions in case of forest, steppe, and peat fires

As of March, 343 fires were registered in Poltava Oblast, up 75% year-on-year. The fire destroyed dry vegetation on a total area of 288.7 hectares.

This was reported by the Poltava Regional State Administration.

Rescuers remind you what to do if you find yourself near a fire:

  • do not run away from the fire;
  • cross the edge of the fire upwind, covering your head and face with outerwear.
  • If the wind speed is low, go to the windward side to an open space (lawn, road).

  • beware of peat dips and unexpected gusts of wind from
  • underground peat fires;
  • when moving, feel the peat soil with a pole in the direction of
  • direction of movement.

The main cause of forest fires is human negligence and ignoring fire safety rules. An unextinguished fire, a thrown match or cigarette, or children's pranks can cause irreparable damage to the forest.

  • Use open flames;
  • leave oiled or impregnated with combustible substances wiping material;
  • fill engine tanks with fuel, use faulty machines, smoke or use open flames near machines that are refueling;
  • leave bottles or glass fragments, as they can act as incendiary lenses;
  • burning grass under trees, in forest glades, clearings, as well as stubble in fields, in the forest;
  • make fires in coniferous young trees, logging areas, in places with dry grass, under tree crowns, and in areas of damaged forest.

According to Ecopolitic, in Kyiv, a fire in the Osokorky Ecopark destroyed 7% of the natural floodplain vegetation in the wet meadows of the Osokorkivski Luki local nature reserve.
