According to European experts, the pursuit of size is beginning to harm the industry

The Chinese company MingYang plans to build the world's largest offshore wind turbine with a capacity of 22 MW and a height of 330 m, taking into account the diameter of the rotor, by 2024-2025.

The wind turbine will be higher than the Eiffel Tower, reports Build Portal.

It is noted that the more powerful each individual wind turbine is, the lower the cost of the electricity it receives.

The article said that the Chinese companies MingYang and CSSC Haizhuang started a secret competition to create the world's most powerful and largest wind turbine. European manufacturers of wind generators, which used to be leaders in this direction, were left far behind.

For example, the largest offshore wind turbine Vestas V236-15 MW in Europe with a capacity of 15 MW, blade length of 115 m with a rotor diameter of 236 m. In China, 16- and 18-MW coastal wind turbines with a rotor diameter of 280 m have already been built.

It is noted that European experts in the field of offshore energy believe that the pursuit of the size of offshore wind generators is starting to hurt the industry.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, the diameter of wind turbines has increased fourfold over the past 30 years, i.e. from 35 meters in 1991 to an expected 252 meters in 2024. Some experts in the industry call for to standardize turbines, because whiter equipment requires rapid infrastructure development. About half of the world's installation vessels are slated to be decommissioned because they are not designed to handle the new turbine models.
