No excesses were found on Nauka Avenue

In the air of Kyiv during the week from January 30 to February 4, 2023, an excess of the average daily maximum permissible concentration of nitrogen dioxide by 3.8 times was found.

Compared to the previous week, the level of nitrogen dioxide pollution has slightly increased, according to the weekly report on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the data of the observatory, the exceeding of the maximum permissible concentration (MPC) in terms of the average daily content of nitrogen dioxide was:

  • 2.3-3.8 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Obolonskimo and Peremoha avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark district, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content of sulfur dioxide:

  • in 1.7-2.6 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Obolonskimo and Peremoha avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Oleksandr Dovzhenko, Hetman Pavlo Polubotka, Inzhener Borodin, Kaunaska and Semyon Sklyarenko streets ;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Exceeding the MPC by average daily formaldehyde content:

  • by 1.0-2.1 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Obolonskimo and Peremoha avenues, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademika Strazheska, Dovzhenka, Hetman Pavla Polubotka, Kaunaska and Sklyarenko streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Other exceedances of MPC by average daily content:

  • carbon monoxide – 1.1 times (February 1 and 3) on Victory Avenue .

Specialists of the observatory selected and analyzed 1606 atmospheric air samples from 16 stationary stations.

As EcoPolitic reported before, in Kyiv in the winter period of 2022-2023 in 50 parks and squares, granite chips are used to combat ice. Despite the fact that granite chips, hot sand and other modern alternative means are widely used in the world, Ukraine is still fighting ice with the Soviet salt mixture.
