The lower the CAQI, the better the air quality

In Kyiv on the morning of Tuesday, November 15, the level of atmospheric air pollution on the Right and Left Banks was very low, and the radiation background in the entire city was within normal limits.

The overall CAQI air quality index is automatically generated based on several major pollutants, including particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), sulfur and nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide and ground-level ozone, reports KMDA.

Right bank

Atmospheric air monitoring points on the street Turivska, 28 – CAQI 17 (very low level of pollution):

  • suspended particles (dust) – 21.3 μg/m with (the maximum permissible concentration is 500 μg/m with), in particular dust fraction 2.5 μm (PM2.5) – 15.6 μg/m with , dust fraction 10 μm (PM 10) – 18.7 µg/m with ;
  • nitrogen oxide – 1.0 μg/m with (MPC – 400 μg/m with);
  • nitrogen dioxide – 15.9 μg/m with (MPC – 200 μg/m with);
  • sulfur dioxide – 1.4 μg/m with (MPC – 500 μg/m with);
  • carbon monoxide – 217 μg/m with (MPC – 5000 μg/m with);
  • ozone – 23.7 μg/m with (HDC - 160 μg/m with);
  • radiation background – 0.11 μSv/h (with a norm of 0.26 μSv/h).

  • nitrogen oxide – 5.4 μg/m with (MPC – 400 μg/m with);
  • nitrogen dioxide – 16.4 μg/m with (MPC – 200 μg/m with);
  • sulfur dioxide – 1.4 μg/m with (MPC – 500 μg/m with);
  • carbon monoxide – 247 μg/m with (MPC – 5000 μg/m with);
  • ozone – 20.9 μg/m with (MPC – 160 μg/m with);
  • radiation background – 0.10 μSv/h.

Prospekt Pravda, 64-G – CAQI 16 (very low level of pollution):

  • suspended particles (dust) – 24.6 μg/m with (MPC – 500 μg/m with ), in particular dust fraction 2.5 μm (PM 2.5) – 16.3 μg/m with , dust fraction 10 μm (PM 10) – 20.6 μg/m with ;
  • nitrogen oxide – 2.2 μg/m with (MPC – 400 μg/m with);

  • carbon monoxide – 238 μg/m with (MPC – 5000 μg/m with);
  • ozone – 21.1 μg/m with (MPC – 160 μg/m with);
  • radiation background – 0.12 μSv/h.

Left bank

St. Kharkiv highway, 7/1 – CAQI 20 (very low level of pollution):

  • suspended particles (dust) – 24.4 μg/m with (MPC – 500 μg/m with ), in particular dust fraction 2.5 μm (PM 2.5) – 17.3 μg/m with , dust fraction 10 μm (PM 10) – 20.0 μg/m with ;
  • nitrogen oxide – 5.0 μg/m with (MPC – 400 μg/m with);
  • nitrogen dioxide – 16.5 μg/m with (MPC – 200 μg/m with);
  • sulfur dioxide – 2.0 μg/m with (MPC – 500 μg/m with);

  • radiation background – 0.11 μSv/h.

St. Architektora Verbytskyi, 26 – CAQI 18 (very low level of pollution):

  • suspended particles (dust) – 18.6 μg/m with (MPC – 500 μg/m with), in particular dust fraction 2.5 μm (PM 2.5) – 15.1 μg/m with , dust fraction 10 μm (PM 10) – 16.3 μg/m with;
  • nitrogen oxide – 6.7 μg/m with (MPC – 400 μg/m with);
  • nitrogen dioxide – 11.1 μg/m with (MPC – 200 μg/m with);
  • sulfur dioxide – 1.0 μg/m with (MPC – 500 μg/m with);
  • carbon monoxide – 220 μg/m with (MPC – 5000 μg/m with);
  • ozone – 24.0 μg/m with (MPC – 160 μg/m with);
  • formaldehyde – 1.2 μg/m3 (MPC – 35 μg/m3);
  • hydrogen sulfide – 0.2 μg/m3 (MPC – 8 μg/m with);
  • radiation background – 0.11 μSv/h.

The report emphasized that the lower the CAQI, the better the air quality.

As EcoPolitic reported before, in Kyiv, the administration of the Dnipro district plans to install solar panels in heating points, which will work in case of long-term absence of central heating and electricity supply.
