In the air of Kyiv during the week from August 1 to 6 in 2022, an exceedance of the average daily maximum allowable concentrations of nitrogen dioxide was found in 3.5 times and formaldehyde by 4.1 times.

Compared to the previous week, the level of formaldehyde and carbon monoxide pollution increased, it is said in the weekly reports on air pollution from the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory.

According to the data of the observatory, the limit of permissible concentration (MPC) is exceeded according to the average daily content formaldehyde last week was:

  • 3.2-4.1 times – on Demiivska, Bessarabska and Peremoha squares, Peremoha avenue, Lesya Ukrainka boulevard, Dovzhenka and Kaunaska streets;
  • 2.0-2.9 times – on Obolonskyi and Nauka avenues, in the Hydropark area, Akademika Strazheska, Popudrenka and Sklyarenko streets

Exceeding the MPC by average daily content nitrogen dioxide:

  • 3.0-3.5 times – on Peremoha and Demiivska squares, Peremoha and Obolonskiy avenues, Kaunaska and Sklyarenko streets;
  • 2.2-2.9 times – on Bessarabska Square, Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard, in the Hydropark area, Akademik Strazheska, Inzhener Borodin, Dovzhenka and Popudrenka streets;
  • no excesses were observed at 37 Nauky Ave. (in the area of the meteorological station).

Other exceedances of MPC by average daily content:

  • of carbon monoxide – 2.8 times on Semena Sklyarenko Street, 1.0-1.9 times on Peremogy Avenue (Sviatoshyn metro area) and Obolonsky Avenue, in the Hydropark area, Akademika Strazheska Street (intersection with Vaclav Havel Boulevard) and St. Engineer Borodin;
  • of suspended solids – 1.0 times on Bessarabska and Peremohy square, Kaunaska street.

Specialists of the observatory collected and analyzed 1,646 samples of atmospheric air from 16 stationary posts.

As EcoPolitic reported earlier, Kyiv was included in the rating of cities with high levels of pollution air.
