Ukrainians were told how to check the quality of water at home

Using potassium permanganate, you can detect the presence of organic impurities

Environmental activists have prepared 4 simple water quality testing methods that can be used at home.

After all, during the war, a large amount of harmful substances enters the groundwater and rivers, which are not always filtered out due to partially destroyed treatment plants, EcoRubrica writes on Facebook.

If it is not possible to do a laboratory study, you can:

  • Let the water stand a long time

Water can be poured into a clean transparent container and left in a dark place for 2-3 days. If there is sediment on the bottom or walls, there is a quality problem.

  • To boil

If the sediment after boiling is yellow or brown, the concentration of iron in the water is high, if it is gray, the calcium content is exceeded.

  • Add potassium permanganate

You can pour 1 liter of water into a glass container and add 1-2 grams of potassium permanganate to it. If the water has turned light pink, everything is fine, but its yellow or brown hue indicates the content of organic impurities and such water is not suitable for consumption.

  • Mirror Magic

You can put some water on the glass surface and see what color the precipitate will remain after drying. If it is yellow or brown, the water has a high iron content, if it is gray, calcium.

"Take care of yourself and your health, check the water and the product," summed up EcoRubric.

Recall, UNICEF told how purify water at home.
